Mission Statement

  • Lauding the success of AAA&PI (Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Island) women
  • Develop social and political awareness of issues that affect AAA&PI women in psychology
  • Increasing the visibility and involvement of AAA&PI women in professional psychology organizations
  • Creating opportunities for mentoring and networking
  • Promoting a sense of community
  • Highlighting and supporting investigation of psychological issues relevant to AAA&PI women’s experiences

The Division on Women is committed to working within the AAPA organization and with AAPA leaders to attain these goals. Over time DoW has developed ongoing projects and new opportunities to reflect the goals of DoW. AAA&PI women within AAPA and in the Asian American psychological community have been encouraged to increase their involvement in events, projects, and conferences that promote our professional and personal development. Overall, the goals of the DoW include promoting a sense of community among Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Island (AAA&PI) women, creating opportunities for mentoring and networking, developing social and political awareness of issues that affect AAA&PI women in psychology, increasing the visibility of AAA&PI women in professional psychology organizations among others.

DoW Awards
Division on Women offers two awards each year, and they are presented at the annual AAPA convention. They are the “Division on Women Award” and “Alice F. Chang Student Scholar Award.

The first award is to celebrate and highlight work on Asian American women’s issues. The “Division on Women Award” will be presented in the amount of $300.00. Interested individuals need to: 1) send in his/her vita to the DoW Co-Chairs, (see complete information below), 2) highlight his/her specific contributions toward API women's issues, 3) prepare a symposium, or present on a topic related to API women’s issues as part of a symposium, and 4) upon receiving the award the recipient is to write an article on his/her presentation for the Fall Division on Women newsletter.

The second award is the "Alice F. Chang Student Scholar Award” to be presented in the amount of $100.00. As with previous years, this award will be given to a student who presents at the poster session during the AAPA conference. A strong preference will be given to students who present on women’s issues. This is our way of encouraging more students to conduct research on issues regarding API women's mental health. Upon receiving the award, the recipient is to write an article on his/her presentation for the Fall Division on Women newsletter. Please follow the AAPA Call for Proposals guidelines. Proposals are to be submitted to both DoW Co-Chairs at addresses listed below.

For more information on these awards or if you would like consult about your ideas, please feel free to contact DoW co-chairs.
