Welcome to the Asian American
Psychological Association!
As a community of diverse graduate students, researchers, teachers, and
practitioners in psychology, our Association has been working since
1972 to advance the psychological well-being of Asian American
communities through affecting professional practice, research, and
teaching.
For our members, we offer mentoring and networking opportunities,
forums to disseminate research and scholarship, structures to share
information and receive support, and awards and initiatives to
recognize contributions to Asian American psychology. Some of the most
visible services provided to members are: 1) our Email Listserv (for
sharing information, posting job announcements, discussing relevant
issues); 2) our Newsletter; and 3) our Annual National Convention.
AAPA also provides much to the discipline of psychology and to Asian
American communities. Our members and initiatives have
positively
impacted psychological treatment, education, training, research, policy
and social justice advocacy, through research dissemination,
organizational policy statements and collaboration with other
psychological organizations for publications, training initiatives, and
disseminating resources for serving Asian American communities.
As the President and Vice President of the Asian American Psychological
Association (AAPA), we welcome you to our organization. Our
initiatives for the current year include:
•
Advancing leadership development: Developing further pipelines of
leadership and expanding leadership opportunities to impact the
discipline of psychology, such as the possible APA council seat for a
representative of AAPA
•
Continuing community collaboration (e.g. continuing Conference
initiative aimed at community connections and continuing collaboration
with community agencies)
•
Increasing the visibility and the impact of AAPA on the psychological
well-being of Asian American communities (e.g. redeveloping our website
to provide more services and continuing the initiative of publishing an
Asian American psychology journal).
We invite all professionals interested in Asian American psychology to
become members, to join our community’s efforts in the
service of
psychological health and social justice for Asian Americans.
Enjoy exploring our organization and community through our
website. We hope you find interesting and valuable
information
pertaining to Asian American psychology and mental health.
Please
feel free to contact us to discuss issues related to Asian American
psychology. The contact information for our Executive Committee is
located on the left under the “About AAPA” link.
