Current Student Representative Board Member Statement

Szu-Hui Lee, M.A., 2004- 2006

I am honored to be elected the 2004-2006 AAPA Student Representative. To me, AAPA has always been a place where meaningful connections are made, collective commitments are shared, and most of all, a safe space for the solace of the heart.  It has truly been humbling and inspiring to be surrounded by brilliant individuals who all possess such passion for psychology and the well-being of our communities. In the spirit of reciprocity, for all that I have gained from AAPA, I am thankful to be given the opportunity to serve the student members and contribute to the association at large.  I will do my very best to continue the great contributions made by my predecessors.

As Student Representative, I plan to solidify the commitment to make true my vision of a strong student community. I believe that by fostering a stronger sense of connection among the student members our synergetic strength will be demonstrated. Just as with many things in life, I believe the first step toward making a difference is to first strengthen oneself. I apply this same belief to the student community. By coming together, we not only serve as support systems for one another on personal and professional levels, we can build a foundation where change can be made collectively. Further, this foundation can provide each of us the springboard toward making our own marks with the comfort of knowing that there will always be this safe home base of supporters.

My commitment to foster the student community and focus on the well-being of student members is the motivation behind initiating the establishment of the Student Online Forum. Launched in June of 2004, this forum provides a space for professional development and for personal connections to be made. The forum is also an avenue for sharing of student questions, interests, and accomplishments. The establishment of this forum illustrates AAPA's commitment to its student members and responsiveness to our needs. I urge you to take advantage of the forum and other student-focused opportunities AAPA offers such as mentorship, convention programs, and student travel and research grants. Let's all get involved!

My visions and ability to serve this position well is only as good as your participation would allow. I welcome your ideas, suggestions, and feedback. Your voice is important and I'm here to serve you. Please do not hesitate to contact me. This community is ours to build together!

In solidarity,
